This is a web site about my life as a Peace Corps volunteer in the West African country of Togo. For five years, from 1982 to 1987, I was a high school science teacher at a Lycée in the town of Badou. I wrote many letters to family and friends, I kept journals, I took pictures, I wrote songs. As I edit and reflect on this material, I will present it here so that I might share my experiences in West Africa.
Some words or phrases are linked to a glossary and pronunciation guide. Some pictures link to short videos or other things. As you read, you will find songs I have written, with lyrics in blue.

The chapters below are listed in chronological order, starting with journal entries and songs from my days at the University of Michigan, where I decided to join the Peace Corps. I hope you enjoy what you see and hear.
