This is a web site about my life as a Peace Corps volunteer in the West African country of Togo. For five years, from 1982 to 1987, I was a high school science teacher at a Lycée in the town of Badou. I wrote many letters to family and friends, I kept journals, I took pictures, I wrote songs. As I edit and reflect on this material, I will present it here so that I might share my experiences in West Africa.
Some words or phrases are linked to a glossary and pronunciation guide. Some pictures link to short videos or other things. As you read, you will find songs I have written, with lyrics in blue.
A song may be preceded by something like this:
You will be able to listen to the song in mp3 or Real format by clicking on those words. The icon will take you to the song page. See my note on formats here.
The chapters below are listed in chronological order, starting with journal entries and songs from my days at the University of Michigan, where I decided to join the Peace Corps. I hope you enjoy what you see and hear.
Use the guestbook to send me comments, suggestions, broken links, etc.
If you have pictures of Lomé, Atakpamé or Badou, email them to me and I would be happy to include them in these pages with acknowledgements and thanks.
